Demonic - Review

While not the best horror movie out there, Demonic (2015) still sent shivers down the spines of viewers with an interesting plot and an unexpected twist...

...but we're here to review a movie, so let's discuss the positive AND the negative.

The film begins with a shot showing the bodies of the teens who were murdered, immediately followed by the beginning of a long explanation as to why and how they ended up in the house in the first place. Here, we meet out first and main character John, a boy troubled with visions/dreams of his mother in a house. He is being interviewed and recorded by his girlfriend, Michelle, a character that is fairly plain but likeable non the less.

The plot eventually advances to show the group packing up and heading to the "haunted house" to search for answers. In this, we are introduced to the victims and also the possible killer.

Upon reaching the house, the group scatters and a series of events happen, such as several heart beats being read in a room of three people, framed pictures bursting into flames, etc.

The film is made in such a way that shows John being interrogated by Dr. Klein and the review of footage of the victims being slaughtered all compiled together to make the storyline flow.

During the interrogation, John let’s known some important details, for instance, the fact that Michelle is pregnant as well as saying that Bryan, Michelle's ex-boyfriend, was the killer. Yadda-yadda-yadda, it is revealed that Bryan escaped in a red pickup and over a walkie started screaming, his voice having a strange effect on John, sending him flying across the room and into a fit. Seeing no other way to stop this, Detective Mark Lewis shoots Bryan in the chest multiple times before rushing over to his side to get information on the location of Michelle, leading to him grunting and ripping the crucifix off from around the detective's neck before dying. This gives the detective a hint and he rushes back to the house and 'saves' Michelle.

This is where that twist comes in as John is revealed as the killer, only that he isn't the killer at all. It was all just the house playing with them as it mentioned that to escape and be set free, everyone must die. They show the multiple dead bodies, including a hanging John and then ends on the pregnant Michelle heading out of the house in an ambulance, carrying a demon baby. All good stuff.

Now, time for me to be brutally honest. While interesting on some level, with a good plot, decent characters and an unexpected twist, this movie qualifies for an "i'm-bored-lemme-just-binge-horror-movies" type of day. This meaning that it’s not necessarily a movie that I would watch again in a hurry but it was nice and entertaining while it lasted. The character's portrayed could've been developed better as the story got deeper and more interesting, but the only character who seemed to change was John, and that's partially because, y'know, he wasn't even himself, he was a demon and whatnot and the plot, while interesting, was missing something that I can't quite place my finger on.

It was fair. It was entertaining. It had the jump scares. It qualified as a horror movie. Based on these points, I would say that this movie was an easy 53% rating on the P Scale.

This is all I got for y'all now. Catch me on the next screen. Bye
